Building Checklist

There are many decisions to be made when building your new home. This list is meant to help you prepare to make those decisions and keep your building timeline on schedule. Keep in mind when you build with Superior Custom Builders,

you'll have the option to work with our interior designer who will help you make all of these decisions.

Blueprint

Floor Plan

Have a basic idea of what you'd like. There are a lot of floor plans available for purchase online, you can use one of ours, or you can work with an architect to design your own. Envision your furniture in your new space. Will your sectional fit where you're thinking of placing it in your new game room? Do you want to add a door in the garage? The best time to make changes to your home is before you've broken ground so take your time and make sure you're happy with the layout

Budget

When building a new home unexpected costs can arise, there will likely be some upgrades you'd like to make. Consider setting aside some extra funds so you'll be prepared for anything.

Doors

Do you want barn doors, french doors, Rockport, Cheyenne, or Corvado style? You'll need to pick a style of door for interior and exterior doors, as well as door stain or paint colors, knob colors and styles. And don't forget about the garage doors!

Roofing

​There are a lot of options for your roof! You and the designer will get to pick out a roof color and material that will go with your exterior paint colors and the style of your home.

Windows

Will you want white or black windows, colonial, half colonial, two over one, diamond, plaza, or prairie style windows? This is one of the first decisions you'll need to make and will help determine the style of your home.

Countertops

Options include but are not limited to granite, quartz, marble, and cultured marble. You'll get to choose the countertops for your kitchen as well as the bathrooms.

Flooring

This is the most used element in your home. You'll want something durable such as tile, hardwood, engineered hardwood, or carpet (low, medium or high pile)? 

Color Scheme

You'll need to choose exterior and interior colors as well as what type of paint finish in each room (satin, gloss, egg shell, etc.).

Are there any restrictions with your new HOA that could affect the decisions you've made regarding the color or style of your home?

Cabinetry

Cabinets are a huge design element in any home. You'll be picking color, texture, cabinet front design and hardware. 

Trim

These details will draw the eye in whichever room they're placed. What type of molding, baseboards, door and window casings do you want, how thick and what specific color? Do you want wainscoting, coffered ceilings, or exposed beams? Will you want built-in shelves in the living room, special shelving in your closet or in the pantry?

What color and material would you like to use for the stairs?

Fireplace

Will you want a fireplace in the main living area? How about outside? Will you want the hearth level with the floor or have a built-in bench seat?

Lighting

​Lighting is the jewelry of the home. Where will you put recessed lighting, pendants, chandeliers, or ceiling fans?

Plumbing Fixtures

You can usually find a great deal on fixtures at stores like Home Depot or Lowe’s. Will you want a smart touch kitchen sink? How about a rain shower? Have fun choosing these small but important details!

This is a fun and exciting process but it can also be chaotic and stressful at times.

Have patience with yourself and the process and keep in mind that at the end of this,

you'll have your dream home and it will all be worth it!
